Dr. Mike grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick, and began his academic journey at Bishop’s University, where he completed a Bachelor of Science. He went on to earn both his Master of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees at Dalhousie University, followed by a post-doctorate program at the University of Western Ontario. In 1996, Dr. Mike moved to Halifax to start a family and open his dental clinic, which he has proudly operated in the North End ever since.

Dedicated to comprehensive general dentistry, Dr. Mike’s true passion lies in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. He is committed to using the latest technology, including computer-designed restorations, digital radiography, single-appointment ceramic restorations, and veneers, to deliver the best possible care. Well-known for his gentle demeanor and outgoing sense of humor, Dr. Mike puts patients at ease with his chairside manner. He is also an active member of many local and national dental associations and regularly attends continuing education courses to stay current on the newest techniques and treatments in patient care.

Outside the office, Dr. Mike enjoys golfing, fly fishing, and traveling. His wife, Sue, and children, Ryan, Renee, and Tyler, mean the world to him, and he takes great pride in balancing his professional life with family and community.

Cortney joined Dr. Mike’s in December 2024 and quickly became an essential part of the team. As Administrative Director, she values the rewarding nature of seeing the positive impact dentistry can have on patients—whether it’s helping someone move past pain, regain comfort, or feel more confident about their smile. For Cortney, one of the best parts of working at Dr. Mike’s is the people: both the patients she meets each day and the close-knit team she works alongside.

Outside the office, Cortney enjoys her most important role as a full-time mom. She and her family love spending time on local walking trails and searching for sea glass along the beaches. Cortney also has a beloved cat, which makes family life even more full and lively.

Sue is originally from Carbonear, Newfoundland. She studied Public Relations at Mount Saint Vincent University and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in International Development and Geography from Saint Mary’s University. With over 20 years of experience in management, public relations, and hospitality, Sue has brought invaluable expertise to the practice as our dedicated and outgoing Office Manager since 2005.

Outside of work, Sue enjoys gardening, fly fishing, walking, reading, yoga, and traveling. She loves spending time with friends and family, and most of all with her husband, Dr. Mike, children, Ryan, Renee, and Tyler, and their two miniature schnauzers, Buddy and Henry.

Madison, affectionately known as “Maddy,” graduated from NSCC’s Dental Assisting program in 2022. She first joined Dr. Mike’s as a work-term student, and the team knew right away they had to keep her. Since then, Maddy has become an essential part of the practice, going above and beyond to ensure every patient feels cared for and comfortable. She is proud to be Dr. Mike’s “right hand” and takes great pride in her role as a Dental Assistant.

Outside the office, Maddy balances her time as a manager at a local restaurant and enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and, of course, her beloved cats Boston and Bear.

Émilie has been part of the Dr. Mike’s team for nearly three years and has been practicing as a Registered Dental Hygienist for over eight years. A graduate of Dalhousie University, she is passionate about building relationships with patients and creating positive dental experiences, especially for children during their very first visits. Émilie values the work/life balance and supportive team dynamic at Dr. Mike’s.

Outside the office, she enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants around HRM, cooking, golfing, and boxing. French is Émilie’s first language, and she completed her education in French from pre-K through grade 12.

Bionca joined Dr. Mike’s in January 2024 after graduating from Dalhousie University. As a Registered Dental Hygienist, she is passionate about boosting patients’ confidence through healthier, cleaner smiles. Bionca loves the supportive and tight-knit atmosphere at Dr. Mike’s and enjoys connecting with patients of all ages.

Outside the office, she enjoys reading, gaming on her Nintendo Switch, and spending time with friends. She is also a proud pet mom to Lilo, her energetic 14-year-old dog, and Jasper, her cuddly cat. Fun fact: Bionca also holds a degree in Marine Biology!

Emma brings creativity and organization to her dual role as Administrator and Social Media Coordinator at Dr. Mike’s. She is currently studying Elementary Education at Mount Saint Vincent University and also works in hospitality as a server and bartender. A passionate baker and owner of a home-based micro bakery, Emma enjoys creating custom treats for special occasions.

In her spare time, she loves reading, crafting, and spending time with her family. Emma values the opportunity to combine her creativity and people skills to support both patients and the dental team.
